2023 GMC Sierra 2500 HD
The GMC Sierra 2500 HD is a heavy-duty pickup truck with the power to get almost any job done. This truck offers a choice of engines, each with the power to move big loads on the worksite and off, and it comes with the trailer technology to make it look easy. For the 2023 model year, the Sierra 2500 HD carries over without any significant changes. Here's a look at some details.
Trim Levels
The entry-level Sierra 2500 HD is the Pro. It comes with 17-inch steel wheels, a trailer hitch, manually adjustable trailer mirrors, and a locking tailgate. Step up to the SLE for 17-inch alloy wheels, upgraded trim, power-adjustable and heated side mirrors, and GMC's MultiPro configurable tailgate. The SLT is up next with 18-inch alloy wheels and all-terrain tires. It also adds LED fog lights and extendable side mirrors. Choose the AT4 for an off-road suspension, skid plates, and a spray-on bedliner or the Denali for 20-inch wheels, side steps, and a power-sliding rear window.
Engine
The base powertrain for the Sierra 2500 HD is a 6.6-liter gas V-8 that puts out 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. It works with GMC's six-speed automatic transmission. A 6.6-liter turbo-diesel V-8 is available and will get you 445 horsepower and an impressive 910 pound-feet of torque. This works with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive comes standard with most trims, and four-wheel drive is optional for all but the AT4 and Denali, where it comes standard.
Performance
When properly equipped, the Sierra 2500 HD can tow up to 36,000 pounds. It can also haul up to 7,442 pounds in the bed. If you plan to take your Sierra over rough terrain, the AT4 has off-road suspension and Rancho shocks to help it to tackle almost anything. The Sierra 2500 HD's suspension does a good job of smoothing out rough pavement, and the four-wheel-drive system provides extra traction when needed.
Interior
There's room for up to six people in the Sierra 2500. It comes with either a front bench seat or front bucket seats, and they're covered in vinyl or cloth in the lower-end trims and leather in the high-end models. The SLT comes with power-adjustable front seats and driver's seat memory settings. It also comes with heated front seats and a heated steering wheel. Technology in the Sierra 2500 starts with a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The SLE upgrades to an 8-inch touchscreen and adds a Wi-Fi hotspot. You'll get 120-volt power outlets in the SLT, and the Denali comes with navigation, wireless charging, and a Bose stereo.
Safety Features
Every Sierra 2500 HD comes with a rearview camera, the Teen Driver system, and a full suite of airbags. The Denali comes with advanced safety systems such as forward collision warning with automatic braking, lane-departure warning, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and a surround-view camera system. It also comes with parking sensors and a safety alert seat that vibrates to make sure the driver knows when a safety system is activated. Depending on the trim, some optional safety systems include a head-up display, a digital rearview camera, and a trailering camera system.
